Do you believe that your love one makes good choices?
Find a way to tell your children and partner that you believe they make good choices.
When a child makes a mistake, say something like, “You may have made a mistake in this case, but you generally make good choices. So, I don’t have anything to worry about.”
If your child’s perception is that you believe they make good choices, they are far more likely to do so.
This also applies to our romantic partners. If we focus on noticing their good choices, and choose to overlook their poor decisions, then our belief of them will change, and eventually, so will their own self-image and behavior.
